Free tickets, RSVP and waitlists

Capacity, invite-only codes and waitlists that release places automatically.

Steps

Open the event, then Tickets, and add a ticket type with a capacity.
Make a ticket hidden and give out an access code for invite-only places.
Under Registration → Waitlist, switch on a waitlist. When somebody cancels, the next person on the list is offered the place.
